Shirley Gwin, 82 of Montezuma passed away Thursday morning, September 7, 2017 at the Montezuma Specialty Care. Shirley Ann Gwin, the daughter of Kenneth and Idella (Shoemaker) Rupp, was born on October 25, 1934 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Shirley attended schools in Chicago and Belle Plaine.

On February 20, 1982 Shirley married Evan Gwin.

In 1983, they bought Van’s Tap in Belle Plaine changing the name to Shirley’s Tap. They sold the business in 1988 and moved to Montezuma. Shirley worked for Diamond Life Care Center as a nurse aide for 20 years before retiring in 2008. She was a caregiver to many people.

Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to collect knick knacks, bowl, do little crafts and dance. She enjoyed socializing and was the life of the party where she loved people.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Evan Gwin; her children: Connie (& Dana) Horst of Montezuma, Sheryl (& Roger) Yilek of Belle Plaine, Glennda (& Frank Stanek) Mann of Grinnell, Larry (& Rhonda) Jacobs of Missouri, and Kimberly (& Neal) Van Roekel of Montezuma; 21 grandchildren; several great grandchildr; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Jacobs; her brother, Dwaine Rupp; and her sister, Leona Bendorf.

Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held in the Guernsey Cemetery at Guernsey, Iowa. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
