Seven Statesmen Earn All-America Status

Oskaloosa–Seven members of the William Penn shotgun sports team earned All-America awards after their performances at last week’s ACUI National Championship.

For placing in the top 25 of the High Overall Athlete standings, Colten Uitermarkt (Grad., Otley, Iowa, Master’s of Organizational Leadership) and Russell Malterud (Grad., North Branch, Minn., Master’s of Organizational Leadership) both garnered First-Team recognition.

By finishing in the next 25 shooters (26-50), Tanner Muff (So., Lincoln, Neb., General Accounting) earned Second-Team honors.

The quartet of Dryden DeKoning (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Business Management), Cade Bowie (So., Benton, Ark., Business Management), Mathew Brindley (Jr., Earlham, Iowa, Industrial Technology), and Hunter Block (Sr., Eldridge, Iowa, Business Management) all finished in the 51-75 range of the standings and collected Honorable-Mention Team recognition.

A total of 587 male shooters competed at Nationals and Uitermarkt guided the Statesmen as he posted a score of 568-for-600. He had perfect 100-for-100 scores in Skeet and Doubles Skeet, while just narrowly missing perfection in Trap at 99-for-100. He also managed scores of 93-for-100 in Doubles Trap, 90-for-100 in Sporting Clays, and 86-for-100 in Super Sporting.

Malterud was right behind his teammate at 567-for-600, headlined by a perfect 100-for-100 in Trap. He also performed well in Super Sporting at 97-for-100, while clearing 90 in Doubles Trap (93-for-100), Sporting Clays (93-for-100), Doubles Skeet (92-for-100), and Skeet (92-for-100) as well.

Muff missed the 90s just once en route to a final score of 563-for-600. His week was guided by a 97-for-100 in Trap and a pair of 96-for-100 showings in Skeet and Doubles Skeet. The sophomore also went 94-for-100 in Super Sporting, 92-for-100 in Doubles Trap, and 88-for-100 in Sporting Clays.

DeKoning led the Honorable-Mention crew at 557-for-600 with a Trap score of 99-for-100 and a Skeet tally of 98-for-100. He followed those up with a 92-for-100 in Super Sporting, 90-for-100 scores in both Doubles Skeet and Sporting Clays, and an 88-for-100 in Doubles Trap.

Bowie and Brindley tied at 556-for-600. Bowie was best in Trap at 99-for-100, while also scoring high in Skeet at 96-for-100. He recorded additional scores of 92-for-100 in Doubles Trap, 90-for-100 in both Doubles Skeet and Super Sporting, and 89-for-100 in Sporting Clays.

Brindley found his best success in Skeet and Doubles Skeet with identical 98-for-100 postings. Trap was also strong for him at 97-for-100, while he also carded a 92-for-100 in Doubles Trap, an 89-for-100 in Super Sporting, and an 82-for-100 in Sporting Clays.

Block had four disciplines at or above 95 as he finished at 551-for-600. His headliner was Trap at 99-for-100, while he also scored 96-for-100 in Doubles Skeet and 95-for-100 in both Skeet and Doubles Trap. The senior closed out his tallies with an 88-for-100 in Super Sporting and 78-for-100 in Sporting Clays.
