Oskaloosa, Iowa – The City of Oskaloosa has proclaimed September to be YMCA appreciation month, with an official proclamation signing at the mayor’s office on September 8, 2017.

The proclamation reads as follows;

Whereas the YMCA is the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through three areas of focus: Youth development, healthy living and social responsibility; and

Whereas there are 54 YMCA branch locations in Iowa serving 304,500 people with 16,171 volunteers providing support across programs and policies; and

Whereas the Iowa Alliance of YMCAs is comprised of 127 independent YMCAs each volunteer led and a powerful advocate for the needs of children, families, and individuals in communities throughout Iowa; and

Whereas the Iowa YMCAs reported 650 partners across Iowa communities including collaboration with schools, government, faith-based organizations, businesses, charities and other nonprofits; and

Whereas YMCAs provide child care programs and a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn, grow and develop social skills; and

Whereas the YMCA is a leading voice in health and well-being with a mission centered on balance, bringing families closer together, encouraging good health and fostering connection through fitness, sports, fun and shared interest; and

Whereas the YMCA gives back to communities in Iowa through programs and services ranging from assistance to the other charities and non-profits, to health screenings, summer enrichment and more; and

Whereas the YMCA is dedicated to improving Iowa’s communities by engaging men, women, and children, regardless of age, income or background, to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve overall health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors; and

Whereas the Mahaska County YMCA has been an integral part of the Oskaloosa community since 1886 and has been a community leader in youth and family programs, recreation and wellness.

Now, therefore, I, David Krutzfeldt, Mayor of the City of Oskaloosa, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2017, as YMCA appreciation month.
