Sandra McWilliams, 80, of Deep River, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Sandra Elaine McWilliams was born January 7, 1939, in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Opal (Stigers) Kitzman and Harvey Kitzman.
Sandra was raised in rural What Cheer, Iowa and graduated from South High in 1957.
She was married to Richard (Dick) Alva McWilliams on June 16, 1957 at the Indianapolis Christian Church, and to this union four children were born.
In 1964, Richard and Sandra moved to the family farm, where they farmed in the Gibson-Deep River area. Sandra and Dick enjoyed 47 years of marriage and farming.
She was an active member of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa and she established a quilting club of church friends that met in her home twice a month. She enjoyed her time with church friends, her Sunday School group, friends at Deep River coffee time, her special community friends and past classmates. She was known for sharing canning and garden produce, pies for fundraisers, baked goods and always had the coffee pot ready for any visitors. Sandra and Dick enjoyed farming with Allis-Chalmers equipment and collecting Allis-Chalmers memorabilia. But her biggest treasure was her family that meant the world to her!! Family meals and holidays, yearly trips to the State Fair and family visits and phone calls brought special memories.
Sandra will be remembered by her four children: Doug (& Jolene) McWilliams of Latimer, IA, Diane (& Tony) Erwin of Oskaloosa, IA, Denise (& Don) DeVore of Carlisle, IA, and Darin (& Allan) McWilliams of Waukee, IA; sister, Rita (& Ed) Parvin of Marion; sister-in-law, Diane Kitzman of What Cheer; brother, Sid (& Connie) Kitzman of What Cheer; sister, Linda Johnson of Delta; grandchildren: Joel (& Steph) McWilliams, Kyle McWilliams, Alexis (& Jess) Orfanos, Angelo Orfanos, Maria (& TJ) Stuart, Danielle and Desaree DeVore, Jade (& Traci) Rodemeyer, Joel (& Amanda) Rodemeyer, Tucker Erwin, Joshua DeVore, Stacey (& Derek) Carter, Stephanie Cozad, and Chris (& Angela) Cozad; and 20 great grandchildren: Aubree, Alivia, Ashtyn, Cole, Gavin, Tate, Hannah, Presley, Dax, Kash, Jayden, Leah, Aiden, Zoey, Evan, Ryan, Dexter, K.J., Chase and Avery.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard (Dick) McWilliams and brother Sam Kitzman.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with the family present.
Burial will be in the Goldenrod Cemetery at Deep River. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of What Cheer is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be designated to the Gateway Church of the Nazarene Mission Fund or the Deep River Fire Department.
