Ruth (Ruthie) Madeline Norris, 88, of Ottumwa died Monday, December 24, 2012 at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. She was born Saturday, July 26, 1924 in New Sharon, the daughter of Tracey and Helen Hendrix Stewart. She graduated from the Lacey High School with the class of 1941. On July 10, 1943, Ruth was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” F. Norris in Lancaster, Missouri, and he died May 15, 1983. Ruth worked at Meadow Gold Diary in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, playing cards, mowing her lawn, gardening, and going for walks.
She is survived by her son: Terry (& Alice) Norris of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Peggy (& Dan) Hults of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren: Angela (& Dan) Gruver of Des Moines, William S. Bowles of Johnston, Amy (& Brad) Hammack of Ottumwa, and Liz (& Chad) Harbour of Oskaloosa; 5 great grandchildren: Grant Michael Starkweather, Spencer Hammack, Ellie Hammack, Joey Harbour, and Rylee Harbour; a brother: Vernon Stewart; and many close friends at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a great grandchild; and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Gary West officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Thursday after 1:00 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel Thursday from 6 – 8 P.M. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.
