Montezuma. Ruby Alderman, 73 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Pella Comfort House. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Montezuma First Presbyterian Church with Pastor George Salnave officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Ruby Laverne Alderman, daughter of Henry W. “Bill” and Isabel (Poortinga) Septer was born on July 28, 1937 in Prairie City, Iowa. She attended Mormon Point Country School before graduating from Lacey High School in 1955. Ruby attended Central College, receiving her two year teaching degree and completed her BA Degree at Drake. On June 5, 1964, Ruby was married to Fred Alderman. To this union two daughters were born, Dianna and Sherrie. Ruby taught at Dallas Center, West Des Moines and Montezuma Schools. At Montezuma, she began teaching 2nd grade and then taught 3rd grade retiring in 2002. After Ruby retired, she continued to volunteer reading to children, as a teacher’s aide and helped in the office. She volunteered for meals on wheels, the Montezuma Library Board, the Prairie City Crisis Center and the after school program at the Presbyterian Church. Ruby enjoyed her cats, garden, flowers, bird watching and camping. She loved to travel, being outdoors and above all her family. Ruby was a member of Quilt Guild, Literary Club, Garden Club, the First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women and an avid Cub’s Fan.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dianna Alderman of North Las Vegas, Nevada and Sherrie Alderman of Mankato, Minnesota; a brother, Lester (Georgia) Septer of New Sharon; a sister, Betty (Ray) Pargeon of New Sharon and special family friend Carolyn Woods of Montezuma.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Isabel Septer and her husband, Fred Alderman on June 11, 1996.
