Ronald J. Tucker, 72, of Oskaloosa died April 27, 2014, at Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Ron was born August 3, 1942 in Iowa City to Wayne Reed and Iva Opal Butler Tucker.

Originally from Jefferson, Iowa, Ron attended Jefferson High School. He earned his G.E.D. and attended William Penn College.

Ron worked in many careers throughout his life, including deputy sheriff, Mahaska County Sheriff, Security Director at Excel in Ottumwa, and Operations Manager at FOX-TV in Ottumwa.

He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, mushroom hunting, cooking for his family, playing guitar in a country band and watching television with his cat, Witchy. In earlier days, Ron was an excellent swimmer, roller skater, and loved rough-housing with his children.

On September 4, 1965, he married Dixie L. Whitehead who survives him, along with his children, Belinda Karber of Jefferson, Tom Tucker of Iowa, Sandi (Pat) Tucker-Stanbro of Oskaloosa, Ron (Angie) Tucker of Fremont, and Larry (Lupe Aguirre) Tucker of Austin, TX. He is also survived by an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Iva Tucker, and five brothers: Tommy, Bob, Bill, Tim and Jack.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life event which will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 at the Fremont Community Center in Fremont with Pastor Julie Wehner giving a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made directly to the family.
