Rollover Accident In Peoria Sends One To The Hospital – Another Under Arrest

On Wednesday, May 16th, 2018, at approximately 9 p.m., the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the intersection of Cross Street and Main Street, in Peoria, Iowa, in reference to a single-vehicle accident. It was reported that the single vehicle had struck a utility pole and had rolled over onto its top. Pella Fire and Rescue, along with the New Sharon Police Department, responded to the accident scene with the Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival to the scene, a 2010 Lincoln Navigator was found on its top. A male passenger, from the vehicle, was found lying on the ground unconscious outside the overturned vehicle. The female driver suffered minor injuries. The passenger was identified as 37-year-old Jaime Alejo Lopez of Ankeny, Iowa. Lopez was flown from Peoria to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines with unknown injuries. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 33-year-old Lisa Marie Dickerson of Newton, Iowa. Dickerson was transported by Pella Ambulance Service to the Pella Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Following her treatment, Dickerson was placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated. She was then transported to the Mahaska County Jail where she was incarcerated. Dickerson was also charged with failure to maintain control of her vehicle and failure to post proof of insurance.

As a reminder, a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
