Rollin’ Oldies roll on in to town
Oskaloosa, Iowa- The Oskaloosa downtown square was the host to the annual Rollin’ Oldies car show Saturday. Beginning at around 8:00 AM, cars began cruising on into the square area. Registration began at 9:00 AM and was closed at 12:00 PM. By the time registration was closed, around 180 cars had shown up for the event. Not all of the cars were from Oskaloosa . While most were from Oskaloosa and surrounding counties, cars came in from all over the state and region. Cars sporting Missouri and Illinois plates were dotted throughout the square. “Our furthest [car] is from Florida,” said Phyllis Lanser, a Rollin’ Oldies club member.
In addition to the cars, several other events were occurring. One of those events was the Poker Walk . Chelsey Johnson, an event volunteer, explained the poker walk. “There’s two different cards. We have five businesses on each. They just go to the business and the business has a deck of cards. They draw a card, write it on their business and whoever has the best hand wins.” Two $50 prizes were awarded to Poker Walk participants.
The event on the square ended at three, however there was more to go to. At around 3:00 PM, cars began cruising on down to the Edmundson Park area for more festivities. A free meal was provided along with Root Beer Floats. Trophies and other awards were also presented to various car owners. In addition, several different cash give aways occurred.
Kudos to the Rollin’ Oldies Committee for another great event!
