Surrounded by family in his home, Roger Broerman, 89, of Oskaloosa, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
Roger was born July 13, 1931, to Herman and Blanche Broerman. Roger became an older brother to sister Marjorie two years later.

Following graduation from Oskaloosa High School in 1949, Roger served in the Army during the Korean Conflict in Germany from 1952-1954.

Roger returned to marry his sweetheart, Shirley Kapple, on February 14, 1954. They shared 67 years of loving marriage, a partnership and passion in farming, mutual priorities of faith and family, and four children: Mike, Greg, LeeAnn, and David.

Roger shared his passion for farming by serving on several boards: Farm Service, Farm Bureau, Mahaska Ruritan, Township Trustee, Nelson Pioneer Farm, and as a 4-H leader. He was proud of living and working on his Century farm.

Roger was a member of Fellowship Bible Church. He believed in his Creator and the saving work of Jesus Christ. Roger’s faith was seen most in his generosity, humility, and steadfast love for his family. He was honorable, reliable, and hard-working.

Roger is survived by his wife, Shirley Broerman; a sister, Marjorie (& Al) Klashak; four children: Mike (& Jan) Broerman, Greg (& Debbie) Broerman, Lee Ann (& Tom) Christy, David (& Ann) Broerman; grandchildren: Jessica (& Mike) Fross, Jamie (& Ryan) Klyn, Megan (& Derrick) Simms, Carrie (& Donnie) VanderEcken, Trint Broerman, Blake Broerman, Joel (& Kjersti) Christy, Corrie (& Andy) Jones, John (& Lizzie) Broerman, Kate (& Eric) Hebel, and Ali (& Bobby) Orzech; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Blanche Broerman; brother-in-law, Elmer Wymore; daughter-in-law, Diane Broerman; and grandson, Jim Christy.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Fellowship Bible Church, 1000 A Ave. West, Oskaloosa; the family will greet visitors from 5 -7 p.m., Tuesday evening.
Private family burial will precede the service at Forest Cemetery. Langkamp Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with Roger’s final arrangements.
The memorial service for Roger will be held at 10:30 a.m, Wednesday morning, April 21, 2021, at the Fellowship Bible Church, with Rev. Rodney DeRonde officiating.
A light lunch will be served for family and friends following the memorial service.
Memorials can be made to Fellowship Bible Church or Mahaska Health Foundation for Hospice Services.
