Rodriguez Wins Title at Midland Tournament

Oskaloosa–Chalimar Rodriguez (Fr., Keller, Texas) became the first William Penn women’s wrestler to take home the top prize as she guided the Statesmen at the Midland Warrior Open Saturday.

Rodriguez went 4-0 in a round robin format for the 101-pound crown. The freshman dominated all four bouts by pinning each opponent in the first period.

Mami Selemani (Fr., Iowa City, Iowa) and Salima Omari (Fr., Iowa City, Iowa) nearly replicated Rodriguez’s success as they reached the finals of their respective weight class brackets.

Selemani finished 3-1 at 123 pounds, including posting back-to-back technical falls to begin her day. She then added a decision victory before dropping a technical fall in the championship match. Omari claimed a technical fall and a decision at 170 pounds prior to coming up short by fall in her last battle.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to host a quadrangular with Midland, Missouri Valley, and Waldorf. Action begins at 6 p.m. with WPU’s first dual against Missouri Valley coming shortly thereafter.
