Robert David Bunnell, age 73, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was born on May 29, 1947, the son of Gweneth Mary Thomas.

Dave served in the United States Army for a short time before being medically discharged.

On September 11, 1992, Dave was united in marriage to Marlene McCartney. Marlene passed away on March 5, 2015.

Following his time in the military, Dave worked at a meat locker in Oskaloosa, for a short time. He then worked construction and owned and operated Dave’s Contracting for many years. Dave later worked as a mill rite for various companies until he retired.

In his early days he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was avid fan of demolition derbies, both in driving the cars and later he helped organize the events. He also enjoyed doing string art and visiting with family and friends at the Riverside Restaurant.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Clubb of Sigourney; a daughter, Tina Bunnell of Oskaloosa; a son, Troy (& Mary Jane) Bunnell of Missouri; 3 grandchildren: Caleb, Christopher and Cole; a son, Michael Ladeas of Knoxville; 3 brothers: Curtis (& Rosie) Bunnell of Oskaloosa, Kevin (& Lu Ann) Utterback of Oskaloosa and Craig (& Maureen) Utterback of Sigourney. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene and a brother in infancy, Michael.

As per Dave’s wishes, his body has been cremated.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the family present to greet relatives and friends.
