Robert “Bobby” McCombs Jr., 76 of Lake Ponderosa and formerly of Polk City, passed away Friday evening, August 16, 2019 at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines. Bobby was born November 19, 1942.

You will always be remembered

Generous, gentle, strong, adventurous, hard-working, loyal are all words that make us think of Bobby. We could each tell stories of Bobby that would make us laugh, he was just that kind of guy. He loved his people and he loved his life.

Bobby has always amazed us. He was an expert quail hunter, a father who could make the world’s best pancakes, a grandpa who jumped right on the “535” Lillypad without hesitation, and a husband so confident and adoring that he said, “I’m going to marry that girl,” the first time he met Loraine.

Bobby proudly served His country in the Army. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and it’s Auxiliary. Bobby’s kids and grandkids describe him as a hero. A generous man who would give you the shirt off his back. His presence was a reminder that everything would be alright.

Bobby adored his wife Loraine from the moment he laid eyes on her. He and Loraine trusted each other with all they had and it did not take long for them to see they completed each other. People say fairytales aren’t real, but they must not have known Bobby and Loraine. It was always a gift to see the way they treasured each other. The most impactful people continue to change us even after they are gone. As the days pass and we celebrate Bobby together we will catch ourselves constantly being shaped by his memory.
