Richard Vogt, 67 of Montezuma passed away Saturday afternoon, March 4, 2017 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Richard Dennis Vogt, the son of William and Dorothy (Swainey) Vogt, was born on September 15, 1949 in Grinnell, Iowa.

Richard graduated from Montezuma High School in 1968. He married Lana Fahlenkamp. They later divorced.

Richard began farming with his father at a young age. He farmed with him on the family farm west of Montezuma and continued farming after his father’s death. Richard farmed 1,200 acres at one time and raised all sorts of animals and livestock, with his favorite being his pigmy goats.

On February 14, 1985, Richard was united in marriage to Arline Goodrich at their home near Montezuma.

Richard’s passion was hunting and farming. He looked forward to his yearly hunting trips to Missouri with his brother. He was a true cowboy/farmer. Richard was a wonderful carpenter and woodworker; building his home, lawn furniture and many other home projects. He was involved with FFA in school and very proud of his grandson and nephew for being involved.

Richard is survived by his wife of 32 years, Arline of Montezuma; five children: Glen (& Marcy) Vogt of Grinnell, Cory Collins of Ames, Josh (& Camila) Vogt of Indiana, Donna (& Tyr) Christensen of Des Moines and Lorie (& Bill) Cooper of Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Sydney Collins, Nathan Snowden, Katie Vogt, Tanner Vogt, Alex Vogt, Liam Cooper, Claire Vogt and Abby Vogt; a brother, William “Bill” (& Linda) Vogt Jr. of Fayette, Missouri and many other relatives and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in the family’s name to be determined later.
