Rex Goodman, 91 years, 8 months, and 4 days, of Rose Hill, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Easter, Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Rex was born August 16, 1922, at Leon, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Ada Dale Goodman.

Early on he worked for various farmers in Mahaska County. He served in the United States Army in the Philippines with the 375 Harbor Craft TC from 1945 to 1946. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Oskaloosa.

On March 8, 1947, he was united in marriage to Donna Brantingham at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. Together they farmed east of Oskaloosa in the Spring Creek Township for 11 years. In 1958, they purchased the farm near Rose Hill where they currently live. Rex farmed his entire working life. He would tell everyone that he picked the right occupation.

Rex was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, and the Mahaska County Historical Society. He enjoyed bird watching, reading the newspaper, and visiting with family and friends.

His family includes his wife of over 67 years, Donna Goodman of Rose Hill; six children: Dianna Simons of Austin, Texas; Joyce Scott of Galesburg, Illinois; Roger Goodman of Oskaloosa; David (Aprile) Goodman of Ottumwa; Mark (Linda) Goodman of Rose Hill; and Mary (John) Becker of Minden, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren: Zachary Simons, Lisa Tillison, Kara Scott, Matthew Goodman, Isaac Goodman, Jennifer Goodman, Amber Baldock, Daniel Goodman, Brian Becker, Alicia Becker, and Michael Becker; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers: William (Dolores) Goodman of Oskaloosa and Robert Goodman of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters: Harriet Engleter, Mildred Stek, Virgene Heming, Betty Culver, & Donna Brown; and two brothers: Jack Goodman and Max Goodman.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating.
Private family burial will be held in the Wymore Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin in the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday morning after 11 and will continue until 7 p.m. Tuesday. The family will be at the funeral chapel on Wednesday morning from 10 until service time at 11 to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or MHP Hospice Serenity House.
