Raymond McGinity, age 78 , of Oskaloosa, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was born on Friday, January 15, 1943, the son of Henry and Maxine (Fiddler) McGinity in Iowa City, Iowa.

Raymond attended the Eddyville Schools.

On September 19, 1965, he was united in marriage to Linda Schott in Oskaloosa. To this union 4 children were born, Stan, Michelle, Toni and April.

Immediately following school, Raymond worked with the Circus all over the United States. In 1967, he settled in Oskaloosa and went to work at Pella Corporation and retired from there in 1999. In retirement, he worked part-time at the YMCA, Penn Centre Theater and Hy-Vee.

In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing. He always looked forward to sharing a cup of coffee and conversation with friends and strangers or potential friends as he referred to them. He loved his pets and especially enjoyed walking his dogs many times a day. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He enjoyed treasure hunting typically at flea markets and garage sales. He was also very willing to haul a load of junk away, some of which would go to the dump and the “good stuff” he would bring home. Some of his favorite collections were pipes, coins and zippo lighters.

Raymond is survived by his children: Stan (& Rhonda) McGinity of Oskaloosa, Michelle (& Bernard) Vinton of Oskaloosa, Toni (& Al) Cerwinske of Delta and April (& Adam) Siggins of Atlantic; his grandchildren: Colter Vinton, Alyssa (& Josh Hickenbottom) Vinton, Kyle (& Brea Wininger) Vinton, Chelsea (& Kolby Starit) Vinton, Eric (& Kaylee) McGinity, Lexi McGinity, Jordan Hartwig, Dakota Templeman, Austin (& Emily) Roe, Brad Roe, Ashley Vancenbrock, Trevor (& Brenda) Vancenbrock, Liz Siggins, Chris (& Shelby Anderson) Siggins, Ethan Siggins, Rickie Siggins, Devon Siggins; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters: Gladys “Janie” (& Kenny) Schuring of Oskaloosa and JoAnn Lautenbach of Pella; his dog, Puggy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; two brothers, Henry “Sonny” and Leon McGinity; a brother-in-law, Larry Lautenbach.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel at 9:30 Friday morning for those wishing to attend the graveside service. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-8 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the family.
