Raymond Maxwell Robinson, 86, of Bloomfield and formerly of Fremont, died on Monday, August 12, 2019, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City surrounded by his family. He was born October 16, 1932, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Raymond P. and Verda (Shaw) Robinson. At a young age, Ray lost his father in a mining accident and was raised by his mother and step-father, Verda and Ray C. Loyd.

Ray attended Fremont High School and graduated with the Class of 1950.

After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country for two years before being honorably discharged.

On January 13, 1957, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Vance at the Christian Church in Ottumwa. To this union six children were born, Cindi, Rhonda, Julie, Brett, Tim, and Tom.

Ray grew up and worked on the farm with his family. Later in life he remained farming but took a job as a machinist at the Clow Valve Company in Oskaloosa until retiring after 30 years of employment.

Ray was a past member of the Masons and was a Grand Master at the former Masons Lodge in Fremont. He was very active as a volunteer, coaching and assisting in sporting events at the high school. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking rides out in the country and attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. His real joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Robinson; his six children: Cindi (& Dan) Crigler, Rhonda (& Larry) Richardson, Julie Wickert (& Tom Delzell), Brett Robinson, Tim (& Michelle) Robinson and Tom (& Cindy) Robinson; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Hanson; and a special friend and brother, Bill Loyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond P. Robinson, Ray C. and Verda Loyd; a granddaughter, Brooke Sampson; and three sisters: Mary Elliott, Phyllis Veach and Barbara Davis.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 16, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Reverend Elizabeth Pigg officiating.
Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
Military rites will be provided by the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Honor Guard. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m.in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Heartland Humane Society.
