Randy Kirby, 63, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born Monday, August 1, 1955 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Ovid and Verda Masterson Kirby.
Randy graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1973.
Following graduation, he joined his dad in the family business of Kirby Sanitation. After his father’s death, he bought half of the business. Later he sold the business and retired. In retirement he worked for Midwest Sanitation and later for 10-15 Transit out of Ottumwa, Iowa.
Randy was a member of the Oskaloosa V.F.W. His hobbies included AAU boxing in his younger years, Demo Derby, NASCAR and playing pool. He drove in the Demo Derby for several years and was also a flagman at the Demo Derbies. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Randy enjoyed hanging out with his family. His favorite past time was spending time with his friends.
His family includes his seven siblings: Stanley (& Carolyn) Kirby of Oskaloosa, Sue (& Gary) Gerard of Oskaloosa, Denny Kirby of Oskaloosa, Roxanne (& Dave) Bahnsen of Coralville, Tammy Sparks of Oskaloosa, Jody (& Randy) Hunt of Oskaloosa, and Lisa Evans of Oskaloosa; many nieces and nephews and many friends.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his beloved dog Daisy.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Charlie McMillian officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday, June 17, 2019 after 3:00 PM in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 PM to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Randy Kirby Memorial Fund payable to Bates Funeral Chapel.
