R. Sue Vander Molen, 72, of Oskaloosa, Iowa died Monday, September 6, 2021, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was born Saturday, February 12, 1949, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Ivan and Juanita (Thompson) Bunting.
Sue graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1967 and went on to earn a Nursing Degree.
Sue worked as a nurse in Oskaloosa before staying home to take care of her family and her home. Later she took a job at the Pella Middle School in the kitchen until 1989 and retired from there after 11 years.
Sue was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed watching NASCAR and other racing events. She was a sports fan and traveled to watch her kids play sports whenever possible as well as watching sports and other shows on TV. She especially enjoyed her time with her family.
Her family incudes her three children: son, Wade (& Valerie) Vander Molen of Alexandria, Virginia; daughter, Alicia (& Pat Gilman) Vander Molen of Monroe; and son, Aaron Vander Molen of Des Moines; grandchildren: Isla and Aria Vander Molen of Alexandria, Virginia, Noah Vander Molen of Monroe, and Abigail Vander Molen of Katy, Texas; cousins: Dwayne and Kay Bunting of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Virginia Bunting of Montezuma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Juanita Bunting; and her favorite dog, Sammie.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. in the Union Mills Cemetery east of New Sharon, Iowa with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa.
