Quartet Collect Academic All-District Accolades

 

Oskaloosa–Four members of the William Penn women’s volleyball team were recognized for high achievements on and off the court as the College Sports Communicators academic all-district women’s volleyball teams were announced recently.

Corrin Lepper (Sr., Jefferson City, Mo., Biology) owns the highest Grade Point Average of the group at 3.80, while Cecily Liphardt (Sr., Lincoln, Neb., Psychology and Business Management) is right behind her at 3.74. Macy Bailey (Sr., Bondurant, Iowa, General Accounting) and Paola Cruz (Sr., Ocala, Fla., Biology) each carried 3.59 GPAs into the fall semester.

The award from CSC (formally College Sports Information Directors of America) recognizes athletes for their performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic all-district honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

Lepper, who was a third-team all-Heart of America Athletic Conference honoree, finished the fall with 219 kills (1.82 per set) at a team-best .325 hitting clip. She also eclipsed the century mark in blocks with 103 (18 solos, 85 assists), while managing 38 digs, seven assists, and one ace as well.

Liphardt joined Lepper on the Heart’s third squad, tallying 557 digs (4.39 per set) in addition to 100 assists, 29 aces, and three kills.

Bailey was an honorable-mention all-Heart honoree with 717 assists (5.78 per set). She also paced the Statesmen servers with 48 aces, while tallying 227 digs and six kills as well.

Cruz notched 56 digs, 22 aces, and 10 assists this season.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must own a 3.50 GPA, be a starter or important reserve player, attend the nominating institution for at least one year, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
