PUBLIC LIBRARY TO ACCEPT “FOOD FOR FINES”
Oskaloosa, IA – Beginning Monday, December 9, the Oskaloosa Public Library invites patrons to pay overdue fees with food or personal care items. Items for the “Food for Fines” drive will be accepted through Saturday, December 21. All items will be donated to support the Ecumenical Cupboard.
“The ‘Food for Fines’ drive is a twofold benefit for the community,” said Library Director William Ottens. “Patrons who may not have cash on hand will have the opportunity to clear up overdue fees with extra food or personal care items while supporting the efforts of the Ecumenical Cupboard during the holiday season.”
The Ecumenical Cupboard suggests donations of hardy soups, canned meat and vegetables, peanut butter and macaroni and cheese. Personal care items like shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes are also among the greatest needs.
Food and personal care items for overdue fines can be turned in at the circulation desk on the library’s lower level. Each item brought to the library will be credited as $1.00 toward overdue fines. Credits will be applied for overdue fees only. Food items that are expired cannot be accepted.
The library is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
