Pleasantville Slips Past Warhawks

PLEASANTVILLE – North Mahaska and Pleasantville battled back and forth all night before the host Trojans escaped with an 8-7 nonconference victory. NM had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning but could not plate the run.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth North Mahaska (9-12) scored four runs to lead 5-3. Pleasantville added a run in the bottom of the inning and another in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. The Trojans then scored their final runs in the bottom of the sixth with three runs.

Olivia Ridgeway doubled to open the top of the seventh. Madeline Doonan flew out to center to bring home Ridgeway. Next up was Regan Grewe, who had already hit a single, triple and homerun. The Trojans were not going to give her a chance and intentionally walked her. Kayla Readshaw, who hit a single and double to drive in two runs on the night flew out to left field ending the Warhawks’ chances.

Besides Readshaw, Grewe and Ridgeway, Addison Falb also had multiple hits with two singles. Doonan hit a double and Kylie Van Weelden singled.

Grewe took the loss from the circle going six innings. She gave up eight runs on 11 hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Her Trojan counterpart, Lainey Kennedy allowed seven runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Lainey Harvey led the Trojan batters with two singles, a double and an RBI.

North Mahaska is scheduled to host Twin Cedars Tuesday at 5:30. They will closeout the regular season at Hillcrest Academy Friday. They will host Lynnville-Sully in the first round of the Class 1A tournament on Monday at 7 p.m.
