Pella Christian Has Big First Half Enroute To Win Over The Indians

by Jamie Brockman

Another slow start hurt the Oskaloosa girls basketball team as they fell at Pella Christian Thursday night 55-31.

The Eagles, playing their final regular season game before starting postseason play Saturday night, jumped out to a 14-4 lead after one quarter and led 25-9 at halftime.

Throughout the first half Osky played pretty decent defense and were much more aggressive in moving the ball and taking shots; however, the shots weren’t falling.

The second half was much more productive for the Indians, and more closely contested as Osky was outscored only 30-22. The Indians were unable to overcome the first half deficit.

Marleigh Denberger led Oskaloosa with 11 points, including three 3 pointers. Lindsay Holmberg returned to the floor after missing the past three games and scored five points. Kaylee Johnson and Amanda Fey also added five apiece, while Macie Krier and Ashley Drost each added three points.

Pella Christian had three girls score double figures led by Emma Huisman with 15. Oskaloosa fell to 2-17 overall and 1-11 in LHC play and finishes the regular season hosting Norwalk on Saturday at 3 pm. From there, the Indians embark on the postseason trail Wednesday with a 7 pm Regional game at Washington.
