Pauline E. Ferns, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born January 13, 1928, in Buxton, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Hazel Tyrrel Chilcote.

Pauline attended country schools through eighth grade. At a young age she started working doing housework and babysitting and a few years at the overall factory.

Pauline was united in marriage to John Scott. To this union four daughters were born, Linda, Diane, Paula, and Joan. They later divorced.

On December 4, 1971, she was united in marriage to Dale E. Ferns at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

In the mid 1970’s, Pauline went to work at Rolscreen (now Pella Corp.), she retired from there in 1997.

In retirement she enjoyed volunteering at SHARE Iowa, playing cards, bowling, and going to the YMCA. She also enjoyed crocheting and making toys for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She and Dale enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to taking their grandchildren with them on short trips.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Williams of Oklahoma, Paula (& Matt) Moore of Oskaloosa, and Joan Wickenkamp of Oskaloosa; a son in law, Robert DeWitt of Lacey; her grandchildren: Danny Williams, Robyn Schneider, Angela Landers, Brian DeWitt, Dana (& Rodney) Wilson, Laura (& Ryan) Housel and Brandon Wickenkamp; several great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Shirley Peiffer of Oskaloosa; two sisters, Irene Fleck and Wyota Tennis.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Ferns; a daughter, Diane DeWitt; a brother, Ray Chilcote; 2 son-in-laws, Nick Williams and Scot Stout; a stepson, Dale Raymond Ferns; and 2 brother-in-laws, Ray Fleck and Ronnie Tennis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
As was Pauline’s wish her body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony.
Burial of her urn will be in the Sixteen Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will be at the funeral chapel on Wednesday morning from 9:30 until service time at 11 to greet friends and relatives.
