The Oskaloosa girls and boys Individual State Qualifiers bowled yesterday in Waterloo and Sidney Thompson placed in the top 8 for the girls finishing in 5th place overall. Sideny had games of 182, 248 and a 191 game for a 616 3 game total series, which put her at the 6th seed for the one game match play format of the state singles tournament. Sidney bowled a great game and came up just a little short to Sophia Rule of Keokuk losing 204 to 201. Sidney has definitely improved her game tremendously from last year when she qualified for state as a freshman. Sidney set some goals for this season and she accomplished most of them, one of them was to improve from last year of just being a state qualifier and just missing out on placing in the top 8 for the singles and she did that by placing 5th. I am definitely proud and excited to see what Sidney will accomplish next season. Ava Ridenour also competed in the State singles and had games of 167,165 and a 155 game for a 487 3 game series, which placed her in 26th place for the girls. Ava was definitely nervous for her first time at the state competition, although she didn’t bowl as well as she would have liked she still did awesome and proud of her for qualifying and battling through the nerves.

The Oskaloosa boys also had 2 boys bowling in the State Individual Competition, Trey VanWyk and Jacob Schutz. Trey VanWyk finished in 12th place with games of 258,195 and 182 for a 635 3 game series. Trey was definitely disappointed in not qualifying for the top 8 match play and being able to defend his State Title from last year, but kept a very positive attitude. Trey has held the high average in all classes for the entire state the last 3 years and averaged his best this season with a 242.90 average a game. Jacob Schutz finished in 23rd place and had bowled games of 154, 158 and a 233 game for a 3 game series of 544. Jacob just missed out qualifying last year and put in a lot of extra work this season to achieve his goal of Qualifying for the State Tournament.

The Oskaloosa Girls bowling team isn’t done yet and will be competing tomorrow at 3:00pm at Waterloo for the State Team Competition. They have already accomplished a lot by being the first girls team to qualify for the state tournament and being one of the top 8 in the 2A class, so let’s wish them all good luck if you see them.
