Osky Girls Move to 21-2 on Season after 7-1 Week.

Osky girls are still on fire as they had a great week on the field, going 7-1 this week, to move their overall record to 21-2. This places the Indians in solid position of 2nd place in the Little Hawkeye Conference, 1 game behind Dallas Center Grimes.

Oskaloosa welcomed the Newton Cardinals to town for a LHC double header Monday night and proved to be a very rude host. Led by So. Kylee Silliman who, throwing a no hitter and striking out 12 Cardinals, helped the Indians to a 6-0 win. Jr. Peyton Zickefoose was 2-3. Sr. Callie Arnold was 1-3 with an RBI, while Fr. Aubrey Miller was 1-2 with an RBI. Jr. Bethany Rowley had the big blow for the Indians with a 2 RBI double.

Game 2 saw the Indians come out and dismantle the Cardinals to get the mercy run rule in a 14-2 win, scoring 13 of those runs in the 4th inning alone. Getting the win was Fr. Alexis Groet, who threw 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and walking 3, striking out 4. Arnold had a homerun and was 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. Kailyn Risher was 1-2 with 2 RBI’s and Sr. Kelsie Tomlin and So. Silliman both were 1-2 with 3 RBI’s.

Tuesday night found the Des Moines Hoover Huskies in Oskaloosa for a non-conference game and the Indians continued to hit and pitch well, as they came away with a 13-3 win. Osky had 13 hits on the night led by Fr. Miller going 2-4 with a double and homerun to drive in 5 RBI’s. Fr. Alexis Westercamp was 3-4 with a double and 2 triples driving in 3. Risher was 1-1 with 2 RBI’s. Arnold was 2-3 with 4 runs scored and Zickefoose was 2-4 with a double.

Wednesday night Osky traveled to Norwalk to take on the #5 ranked Warriors in a LHC showdown. Osky and Norwalk were looking to keep pace with league leader DCG and the Indians did just that as they had timely hits and solid pitching, as usual, walking away with the road win 4-2.

Through 3 innings it was a scoreless game then the Indian bats came to life as Jr. Peyton Zickefoose and Fr. Aubrey Miller hit back to back doubles and Osky went up 2-0 behind Fr. Alexis Groet and her strong right arm. Osky added two more runs in the 5th and held on for the 4-2 victory. Silliman was 2-2 with an RBI and Arnold was 1-3 with an RBI.

Friday night Osky hosted the Pella Little Dutch in LHC action and the lady Indians came away with the sweep winning 8-5 and 5-0. Osky once again rode the two headed pitching monster of So. Kylee Silliman and Fr. Alexis Groet, as they both got wins for the Indians. Silliman went 7 innings allowing 6 hits, giving up 3 earned runs, and walking 1, while striking out 4. Groet went 7 innings allowing 2 hits, no runs and walking 6, while striking out 7. No batting stats were available.

Osky hosted a weekend tournament at the Lacey Complex Saturday. Several rated teams came to Oskaloosa to showcase their talents on the hot and sticky Iowa afternoon.

The Indians took on the Keokuk Chiefs in Osky’s first game and Osky didn’t remember to wake their bats up as the Keokuk pitcher held the Indians at bay, allowing just a couple hits. The Chiefs got a big homerun and some insurance runs in the 7th to take a 3-0 win over the lady Indians. Kylee Silliman took the loss going all 7 innings allowing 8 hits, 2 earn runs, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

Osky took on a rated 1A team in Wayne of Corydon and came away with a 3-1 win for the Indians. Getting the big hit was Jr. Peyton Zickefoose with a homerun. This along with the strong pitching of Fr. Alexis Groet, who allowed 3 hits, 1 run and 1 walk, while striking out 10, going all 7 innings. No other batting stats were available at press time.

Osky is in action at Knoxville on Monday in a Little Hawkeye Conference JV/V double header.
