Osky Bowlers Competed At Conference

by Tony Witt

The Oskaloosa Girls Bowling Team competed in the Conference Bowling at Newton on Friday February the 9th. The girls finished in 4th place just a few pins out of the 3rd place spot in the team event. The girls had plenty of chances and just came up a little short. I am proud of how much the team has improved as the season progressed. The Conference individual tournament went a lot better the Oskaloosa Girls with Sidney Thompson taking the top spot out 60 girls that competed in the singles competition. Sidney bowled games of 246, 190 and 191 for a 3 game total of a 627 series. That is a 209 average for the 3 games. Sidney has improved a lot from last year with a lot of extra practice outside of the normal bowling practice times and it has really paid off for her with the average(195) for the season and her consistency this year. Ava Ridenour has been bowling great the last month of the bowling season and it continued in the conference singles competition on Friday, where she got 3rd place in the singles competition. Ava bowled games of 188, 224 and 168 for a 3 game total series of 580, which is a 193 average for the 3 games.

The Oskaloosa Boys bowling team bowled in Newton for the Conference Bowling Tournament on Saturday February 10th. The Oskaloosa boys finished in 3rd place for the team event, they started off bowling great in the first 5 baker games and had the lead but wasn’t able to sustain the momentum for the remaining 10 baker games unfortunately. The boys were disappointed, because their goal was to be the team champions for the season, but still a good finish for the season. The conference singles competition was a close one this year with first and second place decided by just 2 total pins. Trey VanWyk finished in 2nd place for the Oskaloosa Boys team. Trey had games of 248, 247, and a 245 game for a total 3 game series of 740, and the Champion from Sigourney Brock Alderson had a 3 game total series of 742. Trey was definitely disappointed in not bringing home the conference singles title, however his main goal is to repeat as the class 2A State Champion this year. Cole Vanderwal bowled well and placed 20th out of 60 bowlers that competed in the singles competition. Cole had games of 180, 223 and 187 for a 3 game total series of 590. Cole is averaging 180 on the season for his first ever season bowling and his 3 game average for the conference tournament was 196 for the 3 games.
