Pie Baking Contest & Pedal Tractor Pull

Main Street’s Sweet Corn Serenade typically brings 5,000 people to downtown Oskaloosa for fresh cooked sweet corn. Thursday, July 26 is the date. Pie bakers are needed for the pie-baking contest. The entry fee for the pie baking contest is one pie—simply bring one pie to judge and one to sell. No cream pies, please. Get those recipes out and start baking. Plan to bring your pies to the Oskaloosa Bandstand in the Square at 5:00 p.m., with the contest beginning at 5:30. Osky Cash prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places totaling $75.

Also needed are those who would like to enter the children’s pedal tractor pull sponsored by DuraCrop, Klyn Tire, and Eagle One Safety Solutions. Children ages 3 – 11 must register between 5:30 and 6:00 pm on the day of the event with the pull beginning at 6 pm.

The craft show and food vendors begin at noon, with a special pop-up boutique in the McMillen Building at 210 1st Ave. East beginning at 10 am. Homegrown sweet corn, Mahaska County Cattleman’s beef burgers, Jaarsma pie and ice cream will be served from 4 to 9 p.m. There’s musical entertainment at 5:30 pm by Marshall County Hangmen sponsored by Bank Iowa, followed by the Vanguard Cadets from Santa Clara, California at 7:30 and the Municipal Band at 8 p.m. There will be Community 1st Train rides, children’s activities by the YMCA, inflatables by Gateway Nazarene, balloons by Terrific Tom, Fire Dept. Dunk Tank, Farm Bureau Ag Exhibit, and more. All will be held in beautiful, historic downtown Oskaloosa. See you there!
