Oskaloosa Storm Wins Wisconsin Ho Down Tournament & 2014 State Runner UP
The Oskaloosa Storm 12U baseball team went 5-0 in the Wisconsin Dells. The Storm played their first pool game against the Chicago Diamond Dawgs and won with a score of 10-8. The second pool game was against the Wisconsin Greenfield Jr. Hawks and handed them a 9-1 defeat with solid hitting and strong defense. The Storm were seeded #2 for bracket play once again faced the Greenfield Jr. Hawks and defeated them with an 8-0 score and earned a trip to the semifinal game. The Storm faced the Wisconsin Burn County Shockers who jumped out to an 0-2 lead in the first three innings. The Storm came back to within one in the 5th inning scoring 2 runs to their 3 but then needed to score in the top of the sixth inning to move to the championship game. The sixth inning ended in a tie of 3-3 and we were playing California rules to decide the winner. The Storm was strong on defense and didn’t allow any scores in extra innings and the Storm rolled with a base hit to score the winning run and advancing to the championship game with a final score of 4-3.
The championship game was played against the Wisconsin Holmen Vikings who were the #1 seed and handled all opponents by double digit scores in pool and bracket play. The Storm came out swinging and took a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning. The battle was on with excellent pitching, hitting, and fielding. At the top of 5 innings the score was 6-4 and the Holmen Vikings were surprised by the Storm attack in the fifth inning with the final score being 10-4. The team brought home special Woodside themed gold medals and a picture of the hand carved themed trophy.
The Storm also finished as State Runner Up in the 2014 Iowa USSSA State AAA Tournament that was held June 20-22 in Des Moines, IA. The boys had a weekend record of 4-1-1 and finished with an in class record of 13-4 and overall record of 25-11.
