Oskaloosa, IA—In a display of musical talent and teamwork, the Oskaloosa Middle School Jazz Class, led by Rusty Raymond, clinched first place in the middle school category at the prestigious Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association Jazz Festival, held recently in Clear Creek-Amana.

The festival, known for showcasing the best young jazz talents across Southeast Iowa, saw the Oskaloosa ensemble perform spiritedly and technically proficiently, setting them apart in a competitive field. Their win underscores the exceptional jazz education and enthusiasm for music within the Oskaloosa community.

Four students were recognized for their exceptional performances, adding to the school’s accolades. Ezra Bock and Micah VanEe, both trombonists, Lane Smith on piano, and Ian Rosvold on alto saxophone were awarded Outstanding Soloist certificates. These awards highlight the individual talents within the group and their contribution to the ensemble’s overall success.

Director Rusty Raymond expressed pride in his students’ achievements, noting that their hard work, dedication, and passion for jazz music have been rightly recognized.
