Oskaloosa Kindergarten Classes Enjoy A Sweet Treat
Oskaloosa, Iowa – With the rustling of coats and the chatter that is unmistakable, nine Kindergarten classrooms at the Oskaloosa Elementary School made their way outside to visit with Kevin Dillon of Anderson Erickson Dairy. Kevin was there to greet the students and show them the delivery truck while serving them a carton of strawberry milk. Jaarsma Bakery provided a cookie snack while Dillon spoke about AE and what he does for them.
“Involvement in the community,” Dillon said about why it was important for him and AE to be there to share with the students. “Without the community, without the customer support and the customer base, we wouldn’t be here.”
Dillon, who is new to the area after former route driver Jeff Shannon passed away, had been looking for ways to become more involved in his new home community, and he thought this would be a good way for people to become more familiar with him.
Now for some history of Anderson Erickson. The company was founded in 1930 by Iver Erickson and friend William Anderson when they purchased an existing dairy for $15,000. In 1938, William Anderson sold his portion of the company to Iver Erickson.
AE Dairy is one of the few remaining independent dairies in the US. They are ranked among one of the top 100 dairies in America by Dairy Foods magazine.
The headquarters for AE remains in Des Moines where they serve Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. The familiar AE landmarks of the 14-foot-tall cow named Annie and her calf, Eric, are always there to greet motorists as they drive by.
