Oskaloosa Hosts Their First Ever Swim Meet

The Oskaloosa Indians boys swim team hosted their first ever home swim meet this week at the Mahaska County YMCA.

The Oskaloosa Indians boys swim team hosted their first ever home swim meet this week at the Mahaska County YMCA.

The swim team pulled off a great night of swimming at the first Boy’s home swim meet in the history of the Oskaloosa Indians. The Indians hosted Keokuk and Williamsburg in a double dual and came away with two wins, and they defeated Keokuk by a score of 61-30, and they were able to defeat Williamsburg by a score of 63-24. Everything happened better than imagined as there was great support from the girl’s swim team who did the timings. Janet Reese and Cathy Richmond who ran the scoreboard and the computers. Wade Bolibaugh helped to set the timing system in place, the Oskaloosa Choir who did the National Anthem, the Yearbook people taking pictures, the YMCA in helping set the area up, and all of the other people behind the scenes that helped to make this a great first-time event for the boys’ swim team.

The 200 Medley Relay was the first event of the night, and the Indians got things moving right away as the team of Owen Gordon, Carson Abrahamson, Jarod Miller and Colin Fiechtner combine to swim a time of 1:55.30 to take first place.

The 200 Free was next, and the Indians sent to swimmers to compete. Jack Miller swam a 2:01.11, school record, to take the first-place ribbon and Colin Fiechtner was right behind him to earn the second-place finish in a time of 2:11.92

The 200 IM was next as the Indians again sent two swimmers to compete in this event. Jarod Miller came away with a time of 2:20.56 to earn him second place and he was followed by Jack Dawson who had a time of 2:23.61 to give him a third-place finish.

In the 50 Free Carson Breon went to the blocks and came away with a time of 24.94 to take the first-place finish, and Anthony Chavez finished in a time of 38.81.
Next up was the 100 Fly and the Indians send Jarod Miller once again to the blocks as he swam a 1:03.95 to take home the second-place finish.

In the 100 Free the Indians sent two swimmers to the blocks once again. Carson Breon was able to swim a 54.73 to give him a first-place finish and Nicholas Koenig was able to swim a 1:20.87 for the team.

Owen Gordon was up next for the Indians as he took on the 500 Free event and was able to finish the race in a time of 5:42.43 to earn another first-place finish for the Indians.
Next up was the 200 Free Relay as the Indians topped the school record by the team of Jack Miller, Jack Dawson, Owen Gordon, and Carson Breon by swimming a 1:38.62 to take home the first-place ribbon.

Next event of the night was the 100 Back as Oskaloosa sent Jack Miller to the blocks who swam a 1:00.26, which also was another school record, and it earned him a first-place finish.
For the 100 Breast event, Oskaloosa Sent Jack Dawson to the blocks as he swam a 1:10.08 for the Indians for a first place finished and was followed by Carson Abrahamson who swam a 1:18.56 for s second place finish.

The final event of the night was the 400 Free as Oskaloosa once again sent two teams to compete. The team of Carson Breon, Jack Miller, Jack Dawson, and Owen Gordon swam a time of 3:52.98 to earn the first place finish and the team of Colin Fiechtner, Nic Koenig, Carson Abrahamson, and Jarod Miller finished in a time of 4:23.50 to earn the second place ribbon.
