Oskaloosa High School Football Team Celebrates Season with Legacy of Leadership, Dedication, and Academic Success

Oskaloosa High School wrapped up its football season with an inspiring awards ceremony that highlighted the efforts of players who embody the program’s values on the field, in the classroom, and in their community. The ceremony honored a lineup of outstanding athletes who not only demonstrated exceptional skill but also represented the long-standing tradition and spirit of Oskaloosa football.

Benz Award: Caden Johnson The prestigious Benz Award was given to Caden Johnson, marking him as a player who exemplifies the heart and soul of Oskaloosa Football. Named after loyal fan and local businessman Rex Benz, this award—presented since 1933—is Iowa’s longest-running continuous football honor. Johnson was selected by his teammates for his hard work, leadership, and unwavering dedication. His name now joins the esteemed list of past recipients on the football trophy case statue, symbolizing his invaluable role on the team.

Dave Roepke and Kenneth E. Heinle Awards: Parker Jordan Parker Jordan received dual honors this season, taking home both the Dave Roepke and Kenneth E. Heinle Awards. The Roepke Award, established in 1993, recognizes a player who commits to excellence in all facets of life, exemplifying resilience, character, and unity. Jordan’s name now joins the plaque that honors his accomplishments.

For his high academic performance, Jordan also earned the Kenneth E. Heinle Award, given to the player with the highest GPA. This award, established in 1996 in honor of a longtime supporter of Oskaloosa football, signifies the importance of educational achievement within the program. Jordan’s academic dedication not only reflects his individual commitment but also brings pride to his team and community.

Jim Peters Award: Lukas Toubekis Lukas Toubekis was presented the Jim Peters Award as the most impactful offensive lineman. Named after Jim Peters, a cherished supporter of Osky Football, this award—first given in 1991—was created to specifically honor offensive linemen, recognizing their critical role in the game. Toubekis’s hard work and strategic presence on the line made a significant impact this season, earning him the respect and admiration of his teammates.

Brent Blanchard Award: Heavon Knox The Brent Blanchard Award, named in memory of the former Oskaloosa State Runner-Up team member, went to Heavon Knox. Established in 2002 by Blanchard’s father, Rod, the award honors the most impactful offensive back and carries a legacy of perseverance. Knox’s contributions to the team, voted by his peers, showcased his ability to drive the offense with precision and intensity.

Scout Team and Special Teams Players of the Year: Grady Kennedy and Arabsho Davlatshoev Grady Kennedy received the Scout Team Player of the Year Award for his dedication and spirit in practice, a role that greatly benefits the overall team dynamic. This award, started in 2021, celebrates the commitment to pushing oneself and others for the team’s greater good. Arabsho Davlatshoev was named Special Teams Player of the Year for his invaluable contributions to Oskaloosa’s kicking game, a role that requires focus and a steady impact.

Ironman Award: Multi-Recipient Honors In a tribute to resilience and consistency, the Ironman Award was presented to Brock Beerbower, Parker Jordan, Trey Parks, Kyson Smith, Aaron Dye, Coleton Fawcett, Owen Johnston, Mia Luck, Barrett Rinehart-Lynch, and Dawson Sytsma. Each recipient participated in every practice and game throughout the season, embodying the mental and physical toughness that the Ironman Award, first given in 2023, is meant to honor.

Blackshirt Award: Domanic Piersel The Blackshirt Award, launched in 2021 to recognize the team’s most impactful defensive player, went to Domanic Piersel. Selected by his teammates, Piersel’s commitment to defensive play was a game-changer this season. His name now adorns a plaque that honors his defensive skills and leadership on the field.

Loose Change Award: Parker Jordan Jordan was also named the Loose Change Award winner, highlighting his hustle and pursuit of the football on both practice and game days. This unique award, featuring a mini belt, started in 2022 as a motivational tool to acknowledge the player with the most weekly titles in “Loose Change” drills.

All-District and Academic Honors Several Oskaloosa athletes were recognized for their talents beyond the awards. Caden Johnson (DL), Parker Jordan (DE), Trey Parks (LB), and Lukas Toubekis (LB/DE) were named to the 1st Team All-District, showcasing their exceptional on-field skills. For the 2nd Team All-District, Domanic Piersel (LB), Maddux Ashman (Utility), and Heavon Knox (WR) were selected.

Additionally, numerous players were celebrated for their academic achievements with Academic All-District honors, including Jaden DeRonde, Caden Johnson, Grady Kool, Merek Padgett, Lukas Toubekis, Brock Beerbower, Trevin Griffin, and Parker Jordan.

These awards honor the dedication, excellence, and teamwork that defines Oskaloosa football, highlighting each player’s journey of personal growth and athletic achievement.
