Oskaloosa High Girls Shine at Dickinson Relays: Records Broken and Top 10 Lists Rewritten
In an impressive showcase of athleticism and determination, the Oskaloosa High School girl’s track team made their mark at the Dickinson Relays hosted by the University of Northern Iowa this past Tuesday. Despite competing with just a partial team of 2023 state qualifiers, Oskaloosa’s athletes demonstrated they were a force to be reckoned with, achieving top finishes and setting new records.
Ryleigh Wilken emerged as a standout performer, securing a 9th-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5-0. Her athleticism was not limited to the high jump; Wilken also competed fiercely in the 400 meters and 60 meters, showing her versatility as an athlete. Her performance in the 60 meters was particularly notable, landing her 7th on the school’s All-Time Top 10 list with a time of 8.64 seconds.
Hannah Quang also delivered a memorable performance, finishing 15th in the 60-meter hurdles and, more importantly, blazing through the prelims in 9.84 seconds. This impressive feat catapulted her to the top spot on the All-Time Top 10 list for the event. Quang didn’t stop there; she also broke into the Top 10 list for the 60 meters, tying with teammate Wilken and securing the 8th position with the same electrifying time of 8.64 seconds.
Other team members, including Tierney Carter, Evelyn Adam, Emmalee Wells-Stout, Lydia Van Veldhuizen, and Sadie Blommers, competed across various events, contributing to the team’s overall success and showcasing the depth of talent within the Oskaloosa track program.
Head Coach Betsy Luck couldn’t hide her excitement over the team’s performances. “I was very excited to see the girls compete,” Luck stated, emphasizing the importance of these early-season meets in establishing a foundation for the rest of the season. “We now have times to work from in practice, and the coaching staff is very excited to see improvements from the team moving forward.”
As the indoor season wraps up, the focus shifts to the outdoor track and field season, which kicks off for the Oskaloosa girls on Saturday, March 23rd, at Iowa City Regina.
