Oskaloosa Girls Swimming Showing Resilience

I do not have enough or the right words to describe the resilience our swimmers have shown over the last 24 hours as well as the last few weeks. Over the last 24 hours they competed in two extremely competitive line-ups in pools with teams three and four times their size. They have thrown everything they have into each race, evaluated their performances, then had eyes on the next race. In between meets they pushed through early morning weights with some of the most focus and intensity I’ve witnessed in a high school weight room. On top of that they are navigating practices in a pool with a broken heater, pushing through extremely low temperatures, and not knowing exactly what that will look like in the days and weeks to come.

Our dual vs. NCMP was a quick one, with most girls competing in four events within an hour and a half. Newton hosts in a meter pool, so time conversions are as accurate as we can get from that longer length of pool. Again, if you see a swimmer in the next few days, please commend them on their ability to search for opportunities in every situation they are thrown in. Below are highlights from tonight’s varsity event.

Osky B Medley Relay places 2nd thanks to their attention to technique and pushing through to the end
Gwyneth Utterback places 3rd in the 200 freestyle, with a 4 second (converted time) lifetime PR
Grace Moore places 4th in the 200 IM
Lily Spangenburg places 4th in the 100 freestyle with a lifetime PR
Emma Adams and Maddy Moorman have an exceptional race in the 400/500 freestyle, using each other to push to the end, leading Maddy to a lifetime PR of nearly a minute and a half!!!

As always, thank you for your continued support of this program. Our next meet is scheduled two weeks from today on Tuesday, September 28 at Perry High School.
