Oskaloosa Girls Swim Team Places Third At Conference Meet

The Oskaloosa Girls Swim Team fought to a third-place finish in the Little Hawkeye Conference Meet held in Indianola. Oskaloosa finished ahead of Grinnell, who beat the Indians by 32 points early in the season, further proof of how much improvement and growth the team has achieved this season.

Junior, Sophia Dykstra, was on a mission turning in her best performances of the year. Dykstra achieved a P.R. in the 50 freestyle and a P.R. in the 100 breaststroke, which despite being seeded eighth, she finished 4th. She also attained a P.R. anchoring the 400 freestyle relay.

Other highlights for Osky included numerous top 12 finishes, which earned points towards their team finish. The 400 Free relay of Cassens, Smith, Moorman, and Dykstra finished 5th.

Earning 6th place finishes were the 200 medley relay, the 200 Free relay, and the 400 Free relay, as well as Shannon Linder in the 100 Backstroke, and Ashlee Smith in the 100 Butterfly. Dykstra finished 7th in the 50 Freestyle.

8th place finishes included Sydney Slocum in the 200 Freestyle, Shannon Linder in the 200 Individual Medley, Haley Higgins in the 100 Butterfly, and Hannah Cassens in the 100 Freestyle.

9th place included Cienna Olinger in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke., Sydney Slocum in the 500 Freestyle, and Chayce DeWitt in the 100 Backstroke.

Earning 10th place were Makenzie Hicks in the 200 and 500 Freestyle, Haley Higgins in the 200 IM, Hannah Cassens in the 50 Free, and Bre Engelhardt in the 100 Breaststroke.

Oskaloosa is back in action one final time at the Regional Meet this Saturday, November 2nd, at SE Polk High School starting at Noon.
