The girls’ soccer team was in action Friday night against the Knoxville Panthers. The Indians were looking to rebound from a tough loss and get the game in before winter decided to make its appearance again.

The Indians (2-1) would waste little time getting on the board when Aleeya Cheney would finish a pass from Mary Nelson just 5 minutes into the game. It would be the first of 4 goals for Cheney who would have one of her best games in an Indian uniform.

Despite the cooling temperatures and increasing wind, the Indians would control the tempo of the 1st half and add to their lead with just over a minute left in the 1st half with Cheney’s 2nd goal.

“We were very pleased with how the girls came out and controlled the ball, but we challenged them to pick up the pace in the 2nd half. A 2-0 lead in soccer is one of the most dangerous leads and we challenged the girls to go out faster, stronger, and tougher to get our first shutout of the year.”

The 2nd half would find much of the same from the Indians, but with quicker tempo and more pressure. Cheney would go on to score two more goals in the 53rd and 59th minute of the 2nd half with an assist from Kinsey Cook.

“We were happy with the girls coming out the night before Prom and putting together our best game yet. We controlled the game for a large part and this allowed us several opportunities. It was a great game for our defense in limiting Knoxville to very few chances and shots as we continue to get girls more experience in the back line. Offensively, we will continue to work on finishing more of our opportunities, but considering all the excitement of this week, we will take a 4-0 win.”

We are hoping to be back in action on Monday against #11 DCG in Grimes on Monday, but will wait to see what the weather brings!!!
