Oskaloosa Girls Golf Shows Promise Amid Challenges at Washington Tournament
At the picturesque Washington Golf and Country Club, the Oskaloosa girls’ golf team faced off against some formidable opponents in a closely contested tournament. The lineup featured top teams like Pleasant Valley and Lisbon, adding to the competitive atmosphere of the day.
It was a day of mixed results for the Oskaloosa team, which witnessed both highs and lows among its players. Some members achieved personal bests while others found the course challenging. Overall, the team scored 457, placing 5th out of 6 teams.
Gracie DeRonde, who shot a commendable 112, and Karly Grubb, close behind with a 114, led the charge for Oskaloosa.
Coach Cory Sheeley reflected on the day’s performance, emphasizing the psychological battles that often accompany the physical aspect of the game. “We continue to improve but still lack the mental toughness to keep our rounds together,” Sheeley noted. He highlighted the team’s ongoing efforts to maintain a positive attitude throughout the game, ensuring that a bad performance on one hole doesn’t derail the entire day.
The scores from the rest of the team showed a range of outcomes that contribute to the overall learning experience:
Reese Milburn: 116
Rian Allman: 122
Leah Cohrt: 115
Lydia VanVeldhuizen: 119
