The Oskaloosa City Band performs each Thursday at 8pm in the evening during summer.

The Oskaloosa City Band will perform tonight at 8 p.m. on the city square. This week’s marches include: Karl King’s “Imperial”, John Philip Sousa’s “El Capitan”, and Henry Fillmore’s “The Klaxon”.

The band will play “People Will Say We’re In Love” from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Oklahoma”. Concert goers will hear a variety of tunes from Disney movies in a medley of 4 tunes from 3 movies. You will also hear a catchy tune originally recorded by the Beatles.

The trumpet section will be featured in a tune entitled “Travelin’ Trumpets”. Don’t worry, they aren’t leaving us, but the tune does move along quickly.

This week’s “fiery overture based on a western theme” is entitled “Along the Santa Fe Trail”. As the song progresses, you may feel as if you’re rolling along in a covered wagon and experiencing the beautiful vistas at the tops of mountains.

Each week, the band plays a special song for birthday and anniversary celebrations. If you have someone you would like to recognize on Thursday night, hand a note to the director or another band member before the concert.

Last week, the band played a new tune that is sure to become a new tradition each week. If you missed last week’s concert, you will likely recognize the tune as the one played at the end of “The Lawrence Welk Show” each week. We’ll see you on the bandstand!
