The Oskaloosa City Band performs each Thursday at 8pm in the evening during summer.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Thursday’s 8 p.m. concert on the square marks the Oskaloosa City Band’s last performance of the summer.

Andrea Dursky will be the featured soloist on “I Dreamed A Dream” from “Les Miserables” and “It’s a Grand Night For Singing” from “State Fair”.

Recent Oskaloosa High School graduate, Adam Hammes, will be the featured alto sax soloist on “Someone to Watch Over Me” from George Gershwin’s “Oh, Kay!”.

The trombone section will be featured on “Lassus Trombone” and “Marching Down Broadway”, a medley of Broadway show tunes which includes “Seventy-Six Trombones”.

The audience will recognize another familiar tune arranged especially for the city band by Andy Clark of C.L. Barnhouse. Oskaloosa native Frederick Knight Logan was known as “America’s Waltz King” and gained fame with “The Missouri Waltz”. He lived from 1871 to 1928 and his home is located at 416 B Avenue East in Oskaloosa.

If musicals, show tunes, and waltzes aren’t enough variety, the band will also play a Disco tune made famous by ABBA, “Dancing Queen”.

As always, the band will play a variety of marches and a “fiery overture based on a western theme”. All are invited to attend to sing along, or even dance, with the band.

Fans of the city band can learn more on their facebook page, “Oskaloosa City Band Fan Page”.
