Oskaloosa Boys Track and Field Shine at Pella Dutch Co-Ed Invite

The Oskaloosa Boys Track and Field team made their presence felt at the Pella Dutch Co-Ed Invite on Monday night, hosted by Pella at Lacey Stadium due to construction at their own facility.

Head Coach Mike Sterner expressed his excitement following the event, highlighting the team’s 13 new personal records and three season-best marks set during the meet. He summarized the team’s achievements by saying, “Cue the music. The Boys were back in town, literally, on Monday at Lacey Stadium.”

Top Performers and Highlights:

Jaden DeRonde earned bronze in the 100-meter dash, while Blake Herny secured fourth place in the 800 meters.

New season-best marks were set by:
Lukas Toubekis in the discus
Blake Herny in the 800 meters
The sprint relay team of Jalin Woodard, Jaden DeRonde, Parker Jordan, and Reid Luck

Reflecting on the team’s progress, Coach Sterner shared his optimism, stating, “We continue to be excited for our young men as they keep reaching new PR bests. That tells us they are focused on ‘the right stuff.'”

District Meet Focus:

As the team prepares for their district meet on Thursday in Solon, Sterner emphasized the importance of focus. “We need to keep our focus on our best as we gear up for our district meet this Thursday at Solon,” he said.

The district meet offers an opportunity for automatic qualification to the state meet, with the top two finishers in each event securing their spots directly. Additionally, the next eight best times from across the state will also qualify.
