Oskaloosa Boy Bowling Falls Short Of Returning To State

by Tony Witt

The Oskaloosa boys bowling team finished in 5th place for the team state qualifying meet on Tuesday. They definitely had their goal of returning to team state and I know They were pretty disappointed in not qualifying for state again this year. They still had a great season and they kept improving every meet. This was one of the toughest districts to try and qualify out of in the state. Oskaloosa was runner up, Clinton got 3rd place, North Scott finished in 4th place and they only take the top two teams from the district. The kids will keep practicing and improving and try to get back there again next year.

It’s not all bad news as Trey VanWyk earned a return trip back to the state individual tournament at Maple Lanes in Waterloo next Wednesday. Trey kept his cool with some big games from a couple of the other kids in the first two games of the singles competition while he stayed steady with a 212 and 217 for his first 2 games. Trey they made some lane adjustments and came up big with a 248 last game for a 677 series on a tough house pattern. Trey finished in 2nd place by one pin to the hometown kid from Keokuk. Jacob Schutz started off in 3rd place after he bowled a 224 game but then fell off pace with his 2nd game and came back with a 183 last game for a 558 series to place 15th in the singles, which is not bad for his first year of bowling. Carson Simon finished in the top 20 as well with a 524 series.
