FACE of Mahaska County is currently featuring a unique and innovative art exhibition by artist Akwi Nji. The exhibit is open to the public and aims to inspire visitors during their lunch break.

Sara Kargol, a representative of the center, spoke to Oskaloosa News and encouraged people to make the most of their lunch breaks by visiting the art center on Fridays.

The exhibitions at the center change six times a year, offering diverse artistic expressions to the community.

Akwi Nji, the current featured artist, hails from Eastern Iowa and boasts a multidisciplinary talent encompassing words, voice, and visual arts. Her project, aptly named the “The Remoir Project,” is a fascinating blend of storytelling and visual artistry. In this initiative, Akwi Nji invited people to share fabric pieces that held significant meaning for them and explain the stories behind these fabrics. These stories and fabrics were then used to create remarkable pieces of artwork. The project also featured a podcast where Akwi Nji shared these captivating narratives.

This exceptional exhibition by Akwi Nji will be on display at the art center until the end of October, providing a limited opportunity for art enthusiasts to witness her extraordinary creations.

For those wondering about future exhibitions, the art center will host a special show curated by Akwi Nji herself. This show will highlight the works of Black Indigenous Peoples and People of Color (BIPOC) artists and will be on display throughout November and December.

The art center is open on different days, with hours on Tuesdays from 3 PM to 7 PM and on Fridays from 9 AM to 2 PM.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their lunches and take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, especially on Fridays, as the art center plans to promote more lunchtime art breaks.
