One-Year-Old Loses Life In Apparent Drowning

On Sunday, October 8th, 2017, at approximately 3 p.m. Members of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and the Mahaska Health Partnership Ambulance Service were dispatched to 2292 Adams Avenue, in reference to a drowning victim. This victim was a 1-year-old-male.

Family members had started CPR on the victim prior to Deputies arrival. Deputies and Ambulance personnel continued these efforts while en route to the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital. Upon arrival to the hospital, the victim was declared deceased.

The preliminary investigation into this matter indicates that this subject died from accidental drowning in a farm pond. An autopsy has been scheduled with the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.
