October Player of the Month Laurels to Uitermarkt, Young

 

Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the October Player of the Month laurels.

Graduate men’s shotgun sports athlete Colten Uitermarkt (Otley, Iowa, Master’s of Organizational Leadership) earned the Male award, while senior women’s volleyball player Alyssa Young (Winter Springs, Fla., Exercise Science) claimed the Female honor. The accolade is the first for both individuals.

Uitermarkt guided the Statesmen to a near-perfect month as they won three tournament titles and were second in another. The graduate student was also at the top of the individual standings each and every week, claiming two High Overall Athlete awards and two other third-place finishes. He hit 1,414 out of 1,500 total targets for a .943 rate.

In guiding her team to a 10-3 record during the month, Young tallied 124 kills (2.88 per set) on a .333 attack clip. She also managed 50 blocks (1.16 per set), while recording 17 digs and three aces. The senior produced six double-digit kill matches and had a double-double with 18 kills and 10 blocks. She was named Heart Attacker and Defender of the Week once each.
