Nunnikhoven Leads NM Boys to Win at HLV

VICTOR – North Mahaska is one of those teams that has several players who can score. One of their leading scorers did not score on seven attempts. Step in senior Lucas Nunnikhoven who tied a school record with 10 3-pointers for 33 points to lead the Warhawks to a 61-45 victory. Nunnikhoven’s effort matched teammate Gabe Hora’s effort from a year ago – also against HLV.

Despite the effort from the NM senior, HLV led at intermission 32-30. The second half was all Warhawks as they outscored HLV 31-13 and held the Warriors to three points in the final quarter.

“Lucas has a great night,” said NM coach Kevin Kelderman. “He hit 10 threes and tied the school record.”

Asher DeBoef, who has had back-to-back double-doubles did not score but doled out seven assists, grabbed 11 rebounds and had three steals. Adrian Smith scored 10 points with seven boards and three blocked shots. Hora had eight points, six assists and two steals. Jack Kelderman hit for five points and snagged six boards.
