NM Wins Albia Tourney
ALBIA – North Mahaska kept their record clean Saturday winning the Albia tournament. NM opened the day with a 21-15, 21-16 victory over Pleasantville and followed it up with a 21-17, 21-19 victory over Montezuma in pool play. Then in cross pool play defeated Grand View Christian 25-17, 25-20. It took three games before the Warhawks upended Albia 25-20, 30-32 and 15-9.
In a clash of Class 2A foes, Pleasantville and North Mahaska battled until Alivia Schock hit a service ace to put NM up 10-7. The Warhawks gradually pulled away and Schock hit an ace on point 20 then the Warhawks ended it at 21-15. Pleasantville led game two 8-7 when North Mahaska methodically earned points to lead 12-10. Kaylia Shipman served the Warhawks to a 16-10 advantage and they never looked back.
North Mahaska (5-0) met up with South Iowa Cedar League foe Montezuma in the second match of pool play. Monte led 16-13 and the tenacious play of the Warhawks pulled away for an 8-1 run. In the second game Monte once again led 18-13 and managed just one more point as the Warhawks earned the victory.
No stats from the tourney were available at press time. North Mahaska returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 10, when they host Sigourney.
