NM Girls Tripped by Plainsmen

BELLE PLAINE – North Mahaska’s quest for the South Iowa Cedar League Tournament came up short in the semifinals. The Warhawks battled Belle Plaine before succumbing 25-16, 25-20. Belle Plaine went on to defeat Sigourney 3-1 to earn the title.

North Mahaska will return to postseason action Monday when they host Mormon Trail in the first round of the Class 1A Region 8 tournament.

North Mahaska had been on an ace-serving, spiking frenzy as of late but the Belle Plaine defenders were up to the task limiting the Warhawks to just 20 kills and three aces. Sophomores Regan Grewe and Sydney Andersen led the way with seven and five kills respectively. Andersen had an ace. Freshman Abby Van Weelden and sophomore Breckyn Schilling each recorded three kills.
