NEW SHARON – North Mahaska hit 15 triples and raised havoc on the defensive end to throttle the Martensdale-St. Marys Blue Devils 83-38 in the final regular season game for both schools. Senior Nolan Andersen scored seven of North Mahaska’s first 10 points including a 3-pointer as the host Warhawks dashed out to a 14-0 lead.

North Mahaska (16-6) dropped in five treys in the first half as the Warhawks easily took control 49-15 at intermission. Six different players hit long balls for NM.

Senior Nate Sampson caused commotion for the Blue Devils with three quick steals in the first quarter which led to North Mahaska scores. MSM committed 14 turnovers in the first, 10 came from NM steals.

“It was contagious,” NM coach Seth Streebin said of the 3-pointers. “Once a couple guys hit them others did too.”

The contest was the third game of the week for North Mahaska, all of them nonconference. They lost a tough battle with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Monday then topped a scrappy Oskaloosa team on Tuesday by three points. The win sets the Warhawks up as they enter Class 1A district play Monday when they host Moulton-Udell.

“We are in a good spot mentally,” Streebin said. “We are ready for Tuesday.”

Andersen led North Mahaska with 21 points and nine rebounds with Sampson adding 17. Gabe Hora scored 14 with five rebounds and Asher DeBoef had 11 points. Jack Kelderman finished with five points and six rebounds.

North Mahaska outrebounded MSM 38-19.

MSM (6-15) was led in scoring by Jason Fugate with 11 points.
