Nina Renee Shrago, 67, of Cape Coral, Florida and formerly of Oskaloosa, died on Friday, April 30, 2021, at her home in Cape Coral. She was born February 24, 1954, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Lenora Spears Wood. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1972. On June 12, 1976, she married her high school sweetheart Steve Shrago. They had 3 wonderful kids Shera, Arianne, and Jordan. In Nina’s final month, she clarified the pecking order of her children by noting Jordan as the smart and talented one and Shera as the hard worker. She also repeatedly asked that Shera not sing or dance to entertain her, stating that she was not good at either.
Steve and Nina enjoyed over 35 years of marriage until Steve’s death on April 25, 2011. They loved to ride their Harley with friends and Jordan and after his death, Nina got herself a Harley Trike so that she could continue to ride with their friends. She even bought a trailer to pull behind her Harley that was for nothing but her shoes. Nina also loved to play golf, get dressed up, go out with friends and entertain. She never left the house without making sure she had her hair and makeup done. And almost no one would argue that she was a terrible driver. This was something she would get teased about constantly whether it was from hitting the tree in Shera’s driveway to making Gabe sick because she was lost and going in circles to leaving her rental car running while going shopping for 2 hours.
Nina loved her family and grandkids more than anything in the world. She would spend the summers in Atlanta, taking Gabe & Alex to the Georgia Aquarium, swimming, painting pottery and creating scavenger hunts with clues and prizes for the boys and their neighbors. Nina adored Nathan & Shera’s friends and loved having drinks with them on the deck or around the pool.
She also loved to travel with her friends and her kids. She spent numerous weeks in Sardinia Italy, trips to Fashion Week in NYC with the girls, multiple trips to Breckenridge, CO hiking and being outside and beach trips to Grand Cayman, BVI’s and Atlantis. Nothing made her happier than exploring new places and being with the ones she loved.
She is survived by her two children, Shera Shrago (the hard worker) and her husband Nathan Westercamp of Marietta, Georgia, and Jordan Shrago (the smart and talented) of Colorado; two grandsons, Gabriel and Alex Westercamp; two sister-in-laws, Ellen Shrago of Carpentersville, Illinios and Adrienne (Morris) Johnson of Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her husband Steve, Nina was preceded in death by a daughter, Arianne Dawn Shrago; her parents; her sister, Marsha (Roger) Lynch; and her father and mother-in-law, Donald J. and Hariett Shrago.
Graveside funeral service and burial will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Rabbi David Kaufman officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
